I am a mom of 4 and have been studying my craft since my high school darkroom days. I began at age 13 using by dad's Minolta and I got my first darkroom as a Christmas present when I was 17, which led me to the Savannah College of Art and Design. I have a BFA in Photography from SCAD and have received several awards for my photography. I have been published in local magazines as well as the New York Times. But I'm most proud of my time in classrooms as an arts educator, focusing on photography and entrepreneurship from high school to adult. I learned that kids are amazing. I give them all the credit for thinking outside the box and being resourceful. I was also a Children’s Museum Director at the Greensboro Children’s Museum, where imagination and play are encouraged, and farm to table is learned behavior. My photography began to blend with my children and my desire to document for other family's.  So in 2015, with the help of my family and friends, I opened Melissa Read Photography.

My images strive to depict each family's truest spirit. I enjoy spending time with clients. It allows me to get to see what their unique stories are, the moments when everyone is relaxed and have forgotten I'm there. If you are looking for someone who directs posing, I’m not the photographer for you. But if you’re looking for a low-key observer who pays attention to the little things that make up your family's personality, then let's make some art together.
